Dental Hygiene/Periodontal Health
While at the offices of our Dallas TX dentist, we make sure that you receive the highest level of dental care and ensure that our dental work is of the highest quality. To ensure that you maintain great oral health, this level of quality needs to extend into your personal oral hygiene routine. We can help you establish a dental hygiene routine that will keep your teeth healthy and white. If you have any questions about your current dental hygiene plan please ask us.
Your teeth are not the only important part of your mouth. Your gums are essential to oral hygiene as well. We can provide cleanings and periodontal gum treatment. In more advanced gum disease (known as Periodontitis) patients need to visit our in-office periodontal specialist, Dr. Monika Bazan. It is very important that we keep gum disease to a minimum because harmful oral bacteria affects the entire body as explained in The Complete Health Model’s Oral Systemic Connection (see “Oral Systemic Health” section).
Root Planning and Scaling (Deep Cleanings)
Often there is plaque and tartar that accumulates below the gum line, when this build-up is not removed over time it creates pockets of bone loss below the gum line, this condition is known as Periodontitis or Periodontal disease. In this scenario, special instruments are used to scale the hardened tartar off of the teeth and root surfaces to alleviate the harmful bone degenerating bacteria. The hygienist simply uses a numbing gel around the gums to make the process comfortable .
Arestin is a special topical form of antibiotic that is placed in stubborn periodontal pockets after deep cleanings haven’t completely resolved gum disease areas. This treatment is an adjunctive secondary treatment step that is easy and necessary for resistant bacteria.
When advanced gum disease and pockets are not completely resolving it is sometimes necessary to rid the harmful bacteria by means of gum surgery. Dr. Monika Bazan is available at American Family Dental to save your teeth and improve oral systemic health.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Oral cancer screenings are a very important part of the dental visit for the patient. With the advances in modern technology, our Dallas TX Dentist is now able to pinpoint the start of a potential problem much earlier in its evolution. The ability to do so is extremely important in being able to treat any issues prior to them becoming a major irreversible problem.
The oral cancer screening is often completed with an ultraviolet light or similar device that allows us to view issues that can’t always be detected by the human eye under normal conditions.
Certain lifestyle choices can have a great impact on the health of tissues and your overall health in the mouth. If you are a smoker or heavy drinker, make sure to get regular screenings when you visit the dentist.
